Your Commitment and Plot Maintenance

How much time will I need to spend on my plot?

The time varies between Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. The more time you put in the more you will get out of your plot, fresh fruit and veg and pleasure.

Winter is the time for clearing – if you leave it until the spring you will be running to catch up the whole time, as Spring will be a frenzy of planting and weeding – you won’t have time to clear your plot then.

Once the Spring starts, the weeds will grow at an unbelievable rate.  The Summer will continue with weeding and planting late crops.

During these months there is plenty of work to be done to keep your Allotment tidy, this includes watering newly planted plants, seeds that you have sown. Also, weeding around your crops. You will need to spend 4 to 5 hours a week minimum on your plot to keep up with the workload. In dry periods visits during the week for watering will be required to keep you precious crops from dying.

You can miss weeks in the winter and it won’t be a problem – but its best to come along every couple of weeks so it becomes a habit and starts to fit into your life.  And, of course you need to come to the plot to pick your veg.

Can my plot be taken away from me?

Allotment holders are required to cultivate their plot, keep it free from weeds, clean and tidy.

If you fail to cultivate your plot, keeping it tidy and weed free, you will receive a written warning. You will have 1 month to respond to this, after which time if we do not get a satisfactory response, you will be served a notice to quit the plot within 7 days.

If you find you are having difficulty with the workload required to maintain your plot, please contact us as early as possible before things get out of hand.
